Hi Gary,
THANK YOU!... and you are 100% right, your Guitar Tech MIKE is AWESOME!
I dropped off my "Painfully frustrating to play" Strat with Mike and what he returned to me was nothing short of an amazing, jaw dropping, stage ready, & studio friendly players DREAM! I buy and sell allot of guitars off of the "list" and I have a local guy I started taking my guitars to. For the most part the guitars I sent to him to set up played well. However, I didn't spend much time with them as they weren't "keepers". So when it came to MY own personal player I was EXTREMELY concerned with the sound and the feel of my guitar. Unfortunately, after 3 attempts he just couldn't get it playing right. Frustrated, I searched the net and found the Silverlake Co-Op. (I searched LA/Silverlake because my Sister lives in Atwater Village). Honestly, this was going to be my last shot at getting this particular guitar right because I simply thought it was hopeless.
Here in OC I dealt with ALL of the local shops and I don't mind saying that I feel if your last name is not Richards, Clapton, Page, or Townshend you're just a dollar sign that dribbles, blah, blah, blah when your are discussing the EXACTS of what YOU want and don't want as well as what you are paying for.
Mike found that the wrong nut was on my guitar and there were shims that were being used with no fundamental reason. He also noticed right away the volume knob was set too high, and the pickups needed to be adjusted. He even leveled uneven frets and set it up to have my guitar playing UNBELIEVABLE within a week. I feel the price I paid was beyond fair for such a now AMAZING instrument. Thank you Mike!
I'm not going to knock the guy who once fixed my guitars but I also won't be sending him any more business. The "mistakes" Mike found and his expertise in correcting them shows he has more care for a fellow musician and their guitars than most. And when it comes to making your guitar play the way you know it should, actions speak much, much louder than words.
Mike is a pleasure to deal with, an honest man, and a true talent.
So thank you Gary for the excellent referral and thank you Mike for just giving a crap about all of us other musicians who aren't quite yet in the Rock n' Roll Hall of fame.
I will tell anybody with an open ear of what a fantastic experience dealing with both of you and the Silverlake Co-op has been.
'Till next time,
~Barry ~
